Norway Imposes Border Checks as Refugees Split Scandinavia

Bloomberg
Norway became the latest Scandinavian nation to respond to a deepening refugee crisis that has already overwhelmed neighboring Sweden by introducing border controls.
Norway, which is part of the Schengen passport-free region even though it isn’t a member of the European Union, said late on Tuesday it will impose border controls from Thursday this week.
“The large number of asylum seekers and migrants is creating big challenges for us,” Finance Minister Siv Jensen said in a statement."

Paris attacks: France to call for effective suspension of Schengen open borders

Telegraph
France is to call for an effective suspension of the Schengen Agreement on open borders across Europe this week, as it demands other European nations begin border identity checks inside Europe’s free movement zone, diplomatic sources have confirmed to The Telegraph.
The radical step follows the Friday-night massacre in Paris and will lead French proposals at an emergency meeting of EU interior ministers in Brussels on Friday."

Written in the blood of innocents, the folly of a Europe with no borders

Daily Mail
Professor James Davis, of the University of St Gallen in Switzerland, observed that: 'As police chiefs from Hamburg to Geneva will tell you, criminal bands, largely of Eastern and South-Eastern European origin, are taking advantage of open borders to plan and execute large-scale raids on communities that often are unaware of what has transpired before the convoy of loot-laden trucks has escaped beyond the border.'
The professor went on to warn that 'the problem is made more serious by the fact that radical Islamists are likely to travel among the refugees entering from Southern Europe, posing an increasing threat to soft targets'.
This, too, seems to have come to pass, and to have played its part in bringing carnage to Paris.
Of course, the porousness of Southern Europe's Mediterranean borders would be a problem quite independently of the existence of the EU. But it is the Schengen system that makes this mass migration a nightmare for all of its 26 signatory nations. It was not so long ago that Italy, under-standably unwilling to bear the brunt of such migration, was blithely handing out 'Schengen visas', thus speeding migrants from the Middle East on their way into Northern Europe.  The result of this — combined with German Chancellor Angela Merkel's unbelievably rash invitation to all refugees from the Syrian conflict to regard Europe as their new home — is that one country after another is erecting steel and barbed wire barriers between themselves: exactly the sort of real borders that were supposed to be a thing of Europe's dismal past."

As the first plane-loads of Syrian refugees arrive, MAX HASTINGS reveals the deadly threat of Britain's enemy within

Daily Mail
Tomorrow, the first plane-loads of refugees from Syria arrive to begin a new life in Britain. This will delight actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Labour MPs such as Yvette Cooper and a host of other compassionate folk who have urged that Britain open its door to almost all comers. Perhaps, these lobbyists will feel no twinge of embarrassment about the revelation that at least two of the Paris killers travelled to Europe as refugees from Syria.
The rest of us, however, shake our heads in unsurprised horror.

Juncker et al. apparently want to exterminate the European nations

Luboš Motl ,Pilsen, Czech Republic
At a news conference in Turkey, Juncker said:
We should not mix the different categories of people coming to Europe.
Wow, what an unbelievable moron. The problem is that we are not mixing them. They mix themselves. And they do so almost perfectly. What we're getting are already masses of people who are perfectly mixed and homogenized. The attacker with the Syrian passport didn't look any special from the viewpoint of the Greek or European authorities. For all purposes, almost all of the 1 million people who have flown to Europe in 2015 are men who are physically indistinguishable from the Friday 13th attackers.

Almost all these people are Muslims. A strong majority of them considers the Sharia law and all the associated violations of the human rights to be correct. They've been educated like that and they're already too old to change their opinions about similar fundamental questions. A certain unknown but not negligible percentage of these people are men who are ready to shoot lots of "infidels" without displaying any emotions, or proudly detonate explosive belts attached to their bodies."

Eurocrats are in tragic denial about the Paris attacks

Telegraph
Not only Poland. Most European states are doing the same. Even goody-goody Sweden has “temporarily” reintroduced border checks (in the same way that it “temporarily” shelved its plan to join the euro in 2003).
The European project is collapsing before us. Everyone can see it – except, tragically, the Eurocrats, who are determined to keep integration going at any cost. Tellingly, the declared aim of the recent emergency summit on migration was “Saving Schengen”. Not saving refugees. Not saving lives. Saving Schengen.
While Eurocrats insist that the answer to every problem is “more Europe”, voters are drawing their own conclusions. Some of these conclusions are understandable: German voters, for example, are turning against Angela Merkel, whom they correctly blame for causing the migration crisis. Others are more alarming: Marine Le Pen must now be reckoned likely to win France’s regional elections in three weeks’ time."

France is fighting unwinnable war against terror

Telegraph
France is estimated to have 2,000 citizens involved in Syrian and Iraq jihadi networks and a further 3,800 individuals known to domestic intelligence services as “radicalised”, all watched over by just 3,200 intelligence officers. ..........Europe’s open border policy allowing weapons and terrorists to flow freely into France - with at least two of the Friday night attackers coming in from Belgium - means that there are now real fears that it is almost impossible for the intelligence services to keep track of the jihadi threat.
The refusal of Brussels to tighten the Schengen border rules, or begin a Passenger Name Record (PNR) system – an idea first mooted after the 2004 train bombings in Madrid - has left countries like France even more open to attack, Mr Brisard added.
“The French security service has all the resources and technology you would expect, but Europe has been unable to provide governments with the tools they have been asking for more than a decade now,” he said. .............Reports that the attackers spoke un-accented French, but were carrying Syrian and Egyptian passports, including a passport registered in October at a refugee centre on the Greek Island of Leros, indicated that the Middle East jihadi threat had now fully materialised."

Torn apart by an open door for migrants: Sweden is seen as Europe's most liberal nation, but violent crime is soaring and the Far Right is on the march

Daily Mail
This may sound rather ungrateful. Maher and his two friends, Mahamed, 22, and Mahmood, 38, came to Sweden after taking this summer's well-trodden route to Europe from the Middle East, via Turkey. On reaching Germany, they discovered that the waiting time to claim asylum was running into months. So, last month, they boarded a ferry to ultra-liberal Sweden, which has a reputation for welcoming any foreigner who knocks, and handing out generous taxpayer-funded benefits.Of course, like the 100,000 other incomers to this country of just 9.5 million people this year, Maher's group was let in, and given a place to stay. But there's a problem: by Christmas, another 90,000 are expected to try to enter Sweden, leaving conflict in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as poverty-plagued parts of Africa. ........
The Swedish economist Tino Sanandaji, who himself has an Iranian-Kurdish background, recently described what's happening in Sweden as 'quite disastrous'. He said: 'This is an irreversible social experiment that no wealthy state has ever attempted. There are almost no ideas or visions over how this can be solved 'You can't combine open borders with a welfare state. If you offer generous benefits, and anyone can come and use these benefits, a very large number of people will try to do that. It's just mathematically impossible for a small country like Sweden to fund that.'

At least 127 killed in ISIS terror attacks on Paris, French president says

Fox News
Speaking after an emergency security meeting to plan his government's response, Hollande declared three days of national mourning and raised France's security to its highest level. He described Friday's attacks, which produced the worst bloodshed in Paris since World War II, as an "act of war." Hollande said ISIS was "a terrorist army ... a jihadist army, against France, against the values that we defend everywhere in the world, against what we are: A free country that means something to the whole planet."....
Four attackers then stormed the Bataclan, where concert-goers described a horrifying scene. Witnesses said the attackers toted Kalashnikovs and wore flak jackets as they fired indiscriminately into the crowd. Some survivors claimed the men shouted "Allahu Akbar" or "This is for Syria" as they fired.
Graphic video shot from an apartment balcony and posted on the Le Monde newspaper's website Saturday captured some of the horror as dozens of people fled from gunfire outside the concert hall down a passageway to a side street.
........A U.S. military and intelligence source told Fox News the coordinated attacks likely required "months of planning," based on their sheer number, the locations including a site where the president was present and the variety of weapons used."

French President Hollande Blames ISIS for 'Act of War' Attack

Bloomberg
Friday’s events deepen Europe’s worst security crisis in decades, as social collapse and savage violence in parts of the Middle East begins to affect Western countries directly. The attacks followed the downing of a Russian airliner also blamed on Islamic State, and came as Europe debates how to accommodate streams of refugees fleeing Iraq and Syria.
The attacks were committed "by a jihadist army against the values that we defend everywhere, against what we are: a free country," Hollande said. "It was an act of war that was prepared and organized abroad, and with complicity" from individuals in France, he said."

Islam and the Future of Tolerance

Bringing forward a post that I planned for next week, this short book is a dialogue between Sam Harris and Maajid Nawaz. Harris is a longstanding critic of the religion of Islam and Nawaz made a change from recruiting for a militant Islamic organization to become a dedicated opponent of Jihad and all forms of Islamic extremism. The debate was conducted in the spirit of critical rationalism (I may be wrong and you may be right and with an effort we may be able to get nearer to the truth) and it provides a direction for the ongoing conversation that is required to make progress amidst the religious and cultural conflicts that divide the world at present.
Nawaz has a nuanced position with three significant propositions which I will put out and invite people to go to the source for more explanation. He suggests “what can unite us is a set of religion-neutral values for focussing on the universality of human, democratic and secular values we can arrive at some common ground”. I like that idea and lets see how it goes. The three propositions.
    1. Islam can be interpreted as a religion of peace (and he makes a scholarly case for that, which I can’t judge).
    2. He can hardly find the words to express his scorn and contempt for the ignorant and malicious leftwing allies and apologists for Islam who invented Islamophobia as a straw dummy to vent their spleen.
    3. Jihadists have to be confronted and physically obliterated to the maximum extent that is possible. He adds that this will not be a permanent solution without a win on the hearts and minds front, which may even mean changing the mind of the leftwing apologists.

Are Europe's open borders on the brink of collapse? EU leaders warn of 'race against time' to save passport free travel zone as migration crisis spirals out of control

The European Union is in a ‘race against time’ to stop the impending collapse of its border-free travel zone as its leaders admitted they had lost control.
Countries across Europe are poised to bring back checkpoints as one of the most senior EU officials admitted the ‘clock was ticking’ on the end of the Schengen Agreement. Sweden slammed shut its borders warning it could no longer continue its tradition of welcoming migrants as it cannot cope with the vast numbers coming in."

Angry villagers campaign to evict 70 asylum-seekers from hotel where they've been staying since July at cost of £750,000 to the taxpayer

    Daily Mail
Angry villagers are campaigning to evict some 70 asylum-seekers from a hotel that has been home to refugees for almost four months at an estimated cost to the taxpayer of up to £750,000. Asylum-seekers from Somalia, Syria and Iraq have been at the Britannia Hotel in Standish, near Wigan, since July while waiting for government officials to process their applications.
The Facebook group's founder, Ian Adamczyk, 35, said: 'There are generations who have used their time to make this village safe and secure for their children and grandchildren yet no one in authority has consulted them as to what is going to happen or how they feel about this situation.
'If people are genuinely fleeing their countries with their family and children, Britain would hold its hands out to them - but there seems to be too many people exploiting our country and just coming here for a better life. Nearly all the people in the hotel are young men.
'I think there are people in this country that need the help more or at least just as much. We are never going to be able to help every poor person in the whole world.'
On Thursday, in the space of two hours, three minibuses dropped off dozens of men at the back entrance to the hotel. "

How Sweden, the most open country in the world, was overwhelmed by migrants

    Telegraph
After months of fretting, police finally introduced border controls on the Swedish side of the bridge: the latest symbol of Europe’s unravelling free movement project. There are many others: the razor wire separating Slovenia from Croatia; the border patrols on trains between Germany and Austria.
This has been painful for everyone, but devastating for Sweden because its main political parties barely know how to respond. Openness is the closest thing the Swedes have to a national religion, this policy is visibly failing – and there is no back-up plan.  .............The headlines now suggest a country that is coming apart. Just last month, an asylum centre in the picturesque town of Munkedal was set alight, the latest in a series of arson attacks against refugees. Anti-Semitic incidents in Malmö have raised such concern that Swedes have now started “kippa walks”, gathering in their hundreds to accompany Jews home from the synagogue in a show of solidarity. The Sweden Democrats, a party routinely denounced by Swedish media as “neo-fascist”, is now leading in the national opinion polls. Economically, Sweden remains strong. But politically, it’s in crisis...... When the migration situation changed, Swedish policy did not. The numbers now arriving were never envisaged: this year alone, almost 200,000 are expected to arrive in this sparsely populated country. Adjust for population size, and it’s like Britain finding space for a refugee population the size of Birmingham each year. Sweden’s immigration agency has already run out of beds, and has been accommodating asylum-seekers at its head office."

The migrant crisis is a mere gust of the hurricane that will soon engulf Europe

    Telegraph
The numbers that emerge are stark. The increase in Africa’s population alone is set to be 1.3 billion by 2050, about two-and-a-half times the entire population of the EU today. Put another way, the number of people in Africa and western Asia is expected to increase by over 110,000 every single day for decades to come.
Such figures put into perspective a crisis caused by the arrival of several thousand migrants a day. What we have seen in recent months is only a hint of what might happen next, mere gusts of wind before the approach of a hurricane.  The implications for European countries are immense and clear. First, it is obvious that any approach signalling an open door to migration, as in the case of Germany in recent months, will rapidly prove to be unsustainable. That means it is better not to send that signal in the first place, a rare but major blunder by Angela Merkel. There need to be strict limits on migrant numbers from now on.
Second, the Schengen zone can only survive at all if there is a massive strengthening of its external borders – otherwise one country after another will close its own borders, not for a few days at a time, but permanently."

Muslim Sacralized Rape and Feminized Sweden

    American Thinker
The city of Malmö, with a Muslim majority, is now the violent rape capital of Sweden.  Socialist politicians are directly responsible for the suicidal mass immigration policy in Europe, where 44 million Muslims now live.  Some of them seem to be assimilating to their host culture.  Many are not.  But the political elite everywhere in Europe can't admit to their suicidal immigration policy mistake.  Which makes it impossible for Europe to fix their self-inflicted death sentence. ...............
In Muslim tribal cultures, rape is sanctioned outside the family, the clan, and the faith, the umma.
However, rape and the worst kinds of violence are religiously authorized in jihad war against declared out-groups.  Punishment for rape can be severe if the victim is a protected family member.  But infidel women are free for all.  That is what ISIS is telling the world, in Iraq and Syria."

SHOCKING VIDEO: New Rape Clinic For Men Opens In Sweden Where Muslim “Asylum Seekers” Are Raping Swedish Citizens At Alarming Rate

    100percentfedup.com
In Sweden, Muslim immigrants account for 5 percent of its population but commit 77 percent of its crime. Sweden’s “rape crisis” is a direct result of an influx of Muslim “asylum seekers.
Amnesty International reports that Sweden has the highest number of rapes in Europe and the lowest conviction rate. According to Swedish Public Radio, in Stockholm alone, over 1,000 Swedish women reported that a Muslim immigrant raped them; 300 were under age 15. (One third of those living in Stockholm are immigrants; 24 percent are Muslim). These numbers represent only 25 percent of all rapes in Stockholm because officials claim the majority are unreported. Despite this, the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention and the European Commissioner for Home Affairs “refuse to admit the assailants are Muslim.” ....
Now, next door to Sweden, Norway recently expelled almost a thousand Muslim immigrants for serious crimes, and behold! The violent crime rate dropped by 30% in Norway. Amazing but true.

Teenage Muslim Migrants Let Off With Wrist Slap For Violent Gang Rape

    Breitbart
The young men now judged responsible for the crime are migrants from North Africa, and in common with many arriving in Europe hoping to claim asylum arrived without paperwork. After they were arrested by police following the rape, the men claimed to be between 13 and 16 years old, guaranteeing minimal sentencing. In the event while the judge told the defendants he didn’t believe they were that young, it was impossible to prove either way. Swedish media is reporting they are believed to be between 15 and 18 years old.
Of the three men charged, two denied raping the woman, protestations which were disproved by the court with police evidence. A third admitted to sleeping with her, but insisted the act was consensual, and that he had met her while walking home from mosque. Because of their ages, two of those responsible were sentenced to six months in juvenile detention each, reports TheLocal.se. The third received nine months – a total of less than two years between them for a brutal beating and degrading gang rape.
.....Reporting of the incident has been very careful in Sweden, where media outlets wilfully self-censor to prevent migrants being presented in a bad light. In Aftonbladet, Sweden’s best selling daily, the migrant origin of the rapists was only mentioned in the 14th paragraph of their report yesterday."

Merkel’s Refugee Policy Breaks the Law, Bavarian Minister Says

    Bloomberg
German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision not to apply European Union rules in her handling of the region’s refugee crisis violates German laws, said a Bavarian state minister whose party is allied with Merkel nationally.
“The German federal government is clearly overstepping its constitutional competencies at present,” Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said Wednesday on ZDF public television. “It is not in the power of the federal government to just override and no longer apply existing European and German law.”
The EU agreement requires refugees to be registered in the countries where they apply for asylum and allows bloc members to send back those that have been registered elsewhere. Germany can no longer take the 9,000-10,000 asylum seekers entering the country per day in violation of those rules, Herrmann said. "

To get a grip on the crisis and halt the movement of migrants, EU states have now struck a deal with Turkey. The agreement made with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at a summit in Brussels includes a possible €3bn (£2.2bn) in aid, something German Chancellor Angela Merkel said EU states were considering. EU officials have so far agreed to 500 million Euros.  It also includes the prospect of easier access to travel visas for 78 million Turks (which is likely to be limited at first to business travellers and students) and 're-energised' talks over Turkey joining the EU." .....

Laws of physics hold not only for Volkswagen

    Luboš Motl Pilsen, Czech Republic
As predicted, Mercedes, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi also have emissions an order of magnitude above "test" numbers
'......However, the emissions that have been manipulated also include the oxides of nitrogen. And those are harmful, I think. However, I don't really believe that different diesel cars differ so terribly much from each other when it comes to NOx emissions. All of the diesel motors burn the diesel fuel and it must chemically mean pretty much the same thing.'
To summarize, the only right reaction to this would-be "scandal" is to allow much higher NOx concentrations for personal cars – or eliminate the regulation on NOx in these products altogether – and admit that the carmakers have behaved appropriately given the pressure to violate the laws of physics that they were exposed to. Anything else is either a deliberate attack by the Luddites on harmless technology – or the industrial civilization in general; or a continuation of the practice in which there will unavoidably be a huge gap between what is happening in the real world and what people say or demand or write on the paper."

    How Putin outwitted the West

    Spectator
And most importantly, Putin stole the show at the United Nations General Assembly last month with an impassioned speech denouncing the whole US-backed project of democracy in the Middle East at its very root.  The Arab Spring has been a catastrophe, Putin argued, and the western countries who encouraged Arab democrats to rise against their corrupt old rulers opened a Pandora’s box of troubles. ‘Instead of the triumph of democracy and progress, we got violence, poverty and social disaster,’ he told assembled delegates, in remarks aimed squarely at the White House. ‘Nobody cares about human rights, including the right to life. I cannot help asking those who have forced this situation, do you realise what you have done?’ It was quite a sight: a Russian president taking the moral high ground against an American president — and getting away with it.  ......
But it’s precisely because Putin has been proved right about the dangers of intervention that his own adventure in Syria is likely to end badly. For one, it’s a myth that Assad is the main bulwark against Isis in Syria. According to figures from IHS Jane’s, only 6 per cent of the Syrian regime army’s 982 operations last year were actually directed against Isis. Most of Assad’s attacks — including with Scud missiles and the infamous barrel bombs dropped from helicopters on residential areas — targeted groups that opposed Isis, thereby helping pave the way for Isis to take over Raqqa and the oilfields of northern Syria.
......The Russian operation in Syria is minuscule compared to the vast bases like Camp Victory that Halliburton built for the US military in Iraq, which looked like major airports and boasted full-scale food courts, shopping malls and acres of air-conditioned accommodation. Reports so far show a shipshape but tiny Russian operation, complete with a field bakery, a portable laundry and a single squadron of aircraft as well as some combat helicopters."

Yes, there ARE 'no-go' zones in Europe

    WND
There’s only one problem: Europe is full of Muslim “no-go” zones, which have been documented, lamented, reported on and openly discussed for years. In fact, the governments of France and other European nations have identified specific enclaves, where Muslim immigrants have chosen not to assimilate, as areas in which law enforcement has lost some degree of control. The French government lists on its website 751 Zones Urbaines Sensibles, or Sensitive Urban Zones, that the state does not fully control, notes Middle East foreign policy expert Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum.  .....Pipes, who was one of the first to use the term “no-go zone” in reference to Muslims in Europe, noted in 2006 that France’s Sensitive Urban Zones ranged from two zones in the medieval town of Carcassonne to 12 in the heavily Muslim city of Marseilles, with hardly a town in the country lacking one. Pipes has continuously updated his original 2006 post, citing references by politicians, civil leaders and journalists to “no-go zones” in Britain, Germany and Sweden, as well as France."

New York City residents were treated to a glimpse of their (and our!) future recently when Egyptian journalists in town to cover the visit of Egyptian president Al-Sisi to the U.N. were assaulted by Muslim Brotherhood agents -- in full view of New York City police. The journalists were assaulted verbally and physically while New York’s finest looked on, deigning to intervene in much the same way a schoolteacher does with a recalcitrant student – tut-tutting and tsk-tsking – rather than apprehending and jailing the violent assaulters as one would expect on the streets of an American city. In the end, after clearly committing crimes of personal violence, the attackers were sent on their way.  Not arrested.  Not detained.  Simply allowed to wander off, their intimidation attack successful and unchallenged."

Refugees force woman out of the home she lived in for 23 YEARS after migrant influx

    Daily Express
Furious Ms Keller, 56, slammed the council's move, saying: "I think it’s a scandal to throw tenants out of their apartments. "I can’t see the sense of it." The move is the second of its kind, after 51-year-old nurse Bettina Halbey was kicked out of her home in Nieheim, north Germany."

Refugees 'fight each other in MASS BRAWLS amid power struggle between religions in camps'

    Daily Express
Rainer Wendt said migrant camps were experiencing "proper power struggles between different groups who have different ethnic and religious backgrounds".Mr Wendt, the leader of Germany's police union, added that information about the extent of the crisis is being hidden by authorities to avoid scaring the public. His comments come just days after clashes erupted at a migrant camp near the central German city of Kassel, leaving 14 people injured. .......
There have also been reports of child sex assaults and rapes at a refugee centre in Giessen, a town in the north-west of Germany. Around 5,000 migrants are based at the camp, where campaigners say unaccompanied women are "fair game". Hundreds of refugees recently used broken-up chairs and beds to attack each other at a camp in the port city of Hamburg."

Doctors REFUSE to go to migrant camp alone to pick up sick in case they are attacked

    Daily Express
They will not visit the so-called 'tent city' near Calden, Germany without a security escort, a police spokesman for the region said. The makeshift camp, which houses more than 1,300 refugees, has been rocked by riots and fights in recent weeks. Last month an ambulance was dispatched to the camp but the crew were harassed and the vehicle was attacked, according to reports. "

Euroscepticism is growing all over Europe

    Spectator
In western Europe, the Euroscepticism that used to be portrayed as a mere embarrassing blight among Tory backbenchers is now breaking out everywhere. Ten years ago Dutch voters rejected the EU constitution, but were soon afterwards signed up for the almost identical Lisbon Treaty. Ten years on, campaigners in Holland have succeeded in collecting far more than the 300,000 signatures they needed to force a Dutch vote on further EU enlargement. One of the authors of that initiative, the Dutch writer and philosopher Thierry Baudet, this week announced that he wants to turn the vote into a debate on Dutch EU membership as a whole. "

Thousands enter Syria to join ISIS despite global efforts

    Times of India
WASHINGTON: Nearly 30,000 foreign recruits have now poured into Syria, many to join the Islamic State, a doubling of volunteers in just the past 12 months and stark evidence that an international effort to tighten borders, share intelligence and enforce antiterrorism laws is not diminishing the ranks of new militant fighters.  Among those who have entered or tried to enter the conflict in Iraq or Syria are more than 250 Americans, up from about 100 a year ago, according to intelligence and law enforcement officials."

Money Flows With Refugees, and Life Jackets Fill the Shops

    NYT
IZMIR, Turkey — For months, Ahmed Abdul-Hamid, a Palestinian from the Syrian city of Aleppo, tried and failed to cross the sea to start a new life in Europe. The Turkish police detained him. Smugglers tricked him. Once, his boat stalled and he had to swim back to shore, leaving him stranded and broke. But his fortunes changed this summer when a Turkish smuggler hired him to recruit passengers from among the refugees and migrants flooding into this port city. Soon, his phone was ringing nonstop with people trying to get to Europe, and the cash was pouring in for him — as much as $4,000 per day."

German nurse faces eviction from council block where she brought up her children to make way for asylum seekers

    Daily Mail
A German woman is set to be evicted from the home where she raised her children on order for the local council to turn her block of flats into a refugee shelter. Bettina Halbey received a letter earlier this month, telling her that she has to move out of her home-of-16-years in Nieheim, west Germany. The 51-year-old nurse has been told that she has until May next year to vacate her flat, as Germany struggles to find housing for the thousands of refugees and migrants arriving in the country every week."

Dozens of ethnic brawls in Germany’s “refugee” centres

    Andrew Bolt,Herald Sun (Australia)
In a September 29 interview with the newspaper Passauer Neue Presse, the head of the German police union (Deutschen Polizeigewerkschaft, DPolG), Rainer Wendt, warned that “brutal criminal structures” have taken over the refugee shelters and that police are overwhelmed and unable to guarantee safety and security. He called for Christians and Muslims to be separated before someone gets killed:

“We have been witnessing this violence for weeks and months. Groups based on ethnicity, religion or clan structures go after each other with knives and homemade weapons… Sunnis are fighting Shiites, there are Salafists from competing groups. They are trying to impose their rules in the shelters. Christians are being massively oppressed and the Sharia is being enforced....
Wendt gave the interview days after 300 Albanian migrants clashed with 70 Pakistani migrants at a refugee shelter in Calden, a town in the state of Hesse, on September 27. More than a dozen people, including three police officers, were injured… More than 60 migrants, including ten children, were injured after Pakistanis and Syrians clashed at the same shelter on September 13. ...
In the past two months alone, dozens of violent brawls and riots between different groups of migrants have erupted in Germany’s refugee shelters."   (follow the link and read the rest)

UN reveals it expects 1.4 million migrants to have crossed the Mediterranean to Europe during 2015-16 - nearly DOUBLE its original estimate

    Daily Mail
The UN says as many as 1.4million migrants may cross the border into Europe this year and next - nearly double its original estimates .
The UNHR - the UN's refugee agency - launched a funding appeal on September 8, based on estimates 400,000 migrants would come to Europe in 2015 and 450,000 next year.
But within days, that estimation was revised, and a new document seen today reveals that the number could be more than double the original estimate of 850,000 which it has planned for."

Only by showing his distaste for the EU can the David Cameron convince us to stay

    Telegraph
The balance of hope and fear, however, has changed. The great moral advantage for the pro-Europeans 40 years ago was that they represented hope, whereas the No campaign drew on fear. It felt like the 21st century versus 1940. The future defeated the past.
Now that we live in the 21st century, the shocks of the euro and mass migration and the marked decline of European world competitiveness, have ensured that the EU does not feel like the future any more. The argument for British membership is now almost wholly a status quo one – that getting out is too risky. No sane British pro-European publicly campaigns for much more Europe (although that is what many of them privately want): that side has lost its visionary power.
If it gets it right, the “Leave” campaign can annex both hope and fear – hope that we could be freer to govern ourselves and freer actors in the wider world where the global future is actually being decided; fear that if we stay in we shall be more regulated, more dragged into the deeper Euro-project and more vulnerable to uncontrollable immigration.
Add the fact that voters are much less respectful and more insurgent than they were in 1975, and a Crosby-ish calculation of the outcome becomes much narrower now than then. Recent polls tend to bear this out. The pull of aspiration among the undecided is away from the EU, while that of security is still for remaining. A typical formulation of such a voter might be “I want my country back, but not if it means I lose my job”.

    How Volkswagen was caught

    Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun (Australia)
......to do the first ever evaluation of the tailpipe emissions of diesel cars in America made by European manufacturers.
They tested three cars: a BMW X5, Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat, while travelling over 2400kms on each car to get their results.
After driving from Los Angeles to Seattle and back they noticed something odd about their Passat. Going by Volkswagen’s claims, it should easily have let out the least amount of pollution between those three cars — it had a more modern catalytic reduction system which is meant to convert toxic fumes into safer ones — but that wasn’t the case. The nitrogen oxide that came out of the Passat was in fact 20 times more than the baseline levels permitted by the California Air Resources Board.
The team was puzzled. There was no way it could be wrong. They triple-checked the accuracy of their equipment after the Volkswagen Jetta they tested showed readings 30 times more than the claimed pollution rating.
The BMW, though, gave off the exact results they expected.
At the time, the team had no idea why the cars were emitting so much pollution… “...We didn’t point and say, ‘Volkswagen has a defeat device’,” Thiruvengadam told Autoblog. ......"

Toxic facts about dash for diesel

    Daily Mail
Tony Blair introduced the ‘dash for diesel’ in the late 1990s to meet climate change targets. Under the 1997 Kyoto Protocol wealthy countries had to slash emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), the main greenhouse gas, by 8 per cent over 15 years.
Like other leaders, Blair was swayed by the motor industry’s argument that switching from petrol to diesel would lead to huge drops in greenhouse gas emissions. It’s true that diesels emit less CO2 – mostly they are more efficient and go further on one litre of fuel. However, in the 1990s the industry argued the average diesel emitted 13 to 17 per cent less CO2, a figure that turned out to be hugely optimistic. How was the UK persuaded to switch to dirty diesel?
The 2001 Budget overhauled vehicle excise duty and introduced a new banding system, still in place today. The more CO2 cars emitted, the more owners had to pay. The system favoured diesel cars which, according to the manufacturer’s test results, tended to have lower CO2 emissions. Labour also brought in tax breaks for diesel company cars to encourage businesses to switch."

How West Virginia engineer exposed Volkswagen's catastrophic environmental fraud and wiped BILLIONS off company's shares

    Daily Mail
The results of that study, which was paid for by the nonprofit International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) in late 2012 and completed in May 2013, were later corroborated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board (CARB).   ......."(We) saw huge discrepancies. There was one vehicle with 15 to 35 times the emissions levels and another vehicle with 10 to 20 times the emissions levels."Despite the discrepancies, a fix shouldn't involve major changes. "It could be something very small," said Carder, who's the interim director of West Virginia University's Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines and Emissions in Morgantown, about 200 miles (320 km) west of Washington in the Appalachian foothills."It can simply be a change in the fuel injection strategy. What might be realized is a penalty in fuel economy in order to get these systems more active, to lower the emissions levels."Carder said he's surprised to see such a hullabaloo now, because his team's findings were made public nearly a year and a half ago."

International migration to Britain jumps by 24% in a year to 558,000, the third highest rise in the world

    Daily Mail
Britain experienced the third largest increase in migrants of any major nation last year, a new study revealed today as European ministers held a summit to tackle the refugee crisis. International migration to the UK in 2014 hit 558,800 - a 24 per cent increase on 2013. Only Israel and the Czech republic saw bigger rises. As concern over the flows of people across international borders grows, the OECD think tank also warned that Europe must prepare for 1million people to claim asylum this year."

Migrants buying fake Syrian passports on FACEBOOK

    Daily Express
Fights have broken out between real and fake Syrians, with many using stones and bottles to attack one another on migration routes.  ........
Disturbing recent figures from the EU reveal that only one in five migrants are genuinely Syrian, but 90 per cent of those trying to cross the border claim they are Syrian because they think it is the surest route to gaining asylum. The Arabic version of Twitter even has an “expose fake Syrians” hashtag, which is one of the most trending topics in the war-torn country. The trend has increased fears the well-trodden migrant route could be exploited by terrorists who pose as refugees in a bid to make it into Europe and carry out an attack. German police arrested a Moroccan-born jihadist, who had used fake documents to pose as a desperate refugee. The head of Europe’s border agency Frontex described the abhorrent trend of buying fake documents as a “windfall” for economic migrants, amid the revelation dubious markets selling fake Syrian passports have sprung up across Turkey.
Fabrice Leggeri said: “There are people who are now in Turkey, buying false Syrian passports because they have obviously realised that it is a windfall since Syrians get asylum in all member states in the European Union.."

50,000 failed asylum-seekers have gone 'missing' in the UK since 2012, report finds

    ITV News
The Home Office has come under fire in a critical report into the country's immigration system.
The Public Accounts Committee found that 50,000 failed asylum seekers have gone missing in the UK since 2012, while 175,000 are still awaiting removal from the UK.  .....
In addition, a 29,000-strong backlog of unresolved asylum applications dating back to at least 2007 means a "worrying" 11,000 asylum-seekers have been waiting for at least seven years for an initial decision on whether they can stay in the country, the report found.
As well as longstanding applications, the department is also struggling with fresh asylum claims, the PAC report said, with a backlog of cases awaiting an initial decision jumping 70% to 16,273 in the first quarter of this year."

Migrants in the Balkans: Everyone wants to be Syrian

    Telegraph (USA)

A Pakistani identity card in the bushes, a Bangladeshi one in a cornfield. A torn Iraqi driver's license bearing the photo of a man with a Saddam-style mustache, another one with a scarfed woman displaying a shy smile.
Documents scattered only meters from Serbia's border with Hungary provide evidence that many of the migrants flooding Europe to escape war or poverty are scrapping their true nationalities and likely assuming new ones, just as they enter the European Union.
Many of those travelers believe that using a fake document — or having none at all — gives them a better of chance of receiving asylum in Germany and other western European states. That's because the surest route to asylum is to be a refugee from war and not an economic migrant fleeing poverty. That fact has led to a huge influx of people claiming to be Syrian.
Serbian border police say that 90 percent of those arriving from Macedonia, some 3,000 a day, claim they are Syrian, although they have no documents to prove it. The so-called Balkan corridor for the migrant flight starts in Turkey, then goes through Macedonia and Serbia before entering the European Union in Hungary.
"You can see that something is fishy when most of those who cross into Serbia enter January first as the date of their birth," said border police officer Miroslav Jovic. "Guess that's the first date that comes to their mind."
The chief of the European Union border agency Frontex said that trafficking in fake Syrian passports has increased.
"A lot of people enter Turkey with fake Syrian papers, because they know that they'll get asylum in the EU more easily," Fabrice Leggeri said.
In Germany, customs authorities have intercepted packages mailed to Germany containing Syrian passports, both genuine and counterfeit, the finance ministry said."

Tony Abbott gets it right on Syrian refugees

    The Australian
Tony Abbott got the policy and the politics of Syria right yesterday. He was a bit slow off the mark at the weekend but he quickly identified this shortcoming, read the community sentiment accurately and drove government processes to produce a credible policy response. .....In particular, this act of generosity is possible only because the flow of illegal immigrants by boat to Australia from the north has been halted.  ......
But the Australian people want to know that it is their government that controls Australia’s borders, and that refugees come here in an orderly way, given that there is no immediate neighbour from which anyone can legitimately be fleeing persecution to Australia.
In other words, this generous action is possible only because of Abbott’s success in stopping the boats."

Turning back refugee boats saves lives - as Australia found out
"The conclusion from the Australian experience is that those who benefit most from tough border protection are the immigrants who come here fairly and legally. Strict controls help dampen down xenophobia, and ensure that decent treatment is given to those seeking the nation’s hospitality. If only you Poms had not surrendered your sovereignty to Brussels! Welcome Islamic Neighbors: Europe Welcomes You With Open Arms! …Yours For The Taking!

    NoTricksZone
I’m feeling cynical this evening. Off topic… How incompetent and clueless are Europe’s leaders? Well this may be the first time in human history that Europe has chosen not to defend itself against an invasion. In fact it is even surrealistically welcoming it! Dear Islamists, you have been dreaming a long time of overrunning Europe, with many of you thinking it will involve patience and might take some decades, or even a century or two. Well, good news for you – your wait is over! It can be yours in less than 10 years! It’s for real. Tens of thousands have already done it. Why now? Never have European leaders been so incompetent, naïve, and so generous. They are welcoming you with open arms, gifts, food, money, free healthcare and warm places to stay. They want to show the whole world how good and moral they are – because they are suffering from a guilt trip of some strange sort."
.....And there is nothing that will be done about it. European leaders, by allowing a totally uncontrolled mass immigration across their borders, have thrown the national security of their citizens overboard. These fools don’t seem to realize it, but the first target of terrorists is often the state itself. There’s no way of knowing how many terrorists and fighters are embedded among the refugees. This is negligence of the worst kind."

As Europe opens its doors, Japan considers clamping down harder on asylum seekers

    Reuters

As the worst refugee crisis since World War Two forces Europe to break down hurdles and accept hundreds of thousands of migrants, Japan, which took in just 11 asylum seekers last year, is looking to clamp down even further.
Measures including deporting failed applicants, curbs on repeat applications and pre-screening of new asylum seekers are being considered as part of changes to the country's immigration system, an official said on Wednesday.
If implemented, the changes would make Japan an even harder-to-reach destination, activists say. The country is already one of the developed world's least welcoming countries for refugees, accepting 11 of a record 5,000 asylum seekers in 2014."

Merkel’s grandstanding on Syrian refugees will lead to many more deaths at sea

    Spectator
Of all the irresponsible decisions taken in recent years by European politicians, few will cause as much human misery as Angela Merkel’s plan to welcome Syrian refugees to Germany. Hailed as enlightened moral leadership, it is in fact the result of panic and muddled thinking. Her pronouncements will lure thousands more into the hands of unscrupulous people-traffickers. Her insistence that the rest of the continent should share the burden will add political instability to the mix. Merkel has made a dire situation worse.  ......Merkel’s actions, now, will be hard to correct: her words cannot be unsaid. She has exacerbated a problem that will be with us for years, perhaps decades. More than 40 per cent of those who applied for asylum in Germany in the first half of this year came from the former Yugoslavia; the last of its wars ended 14 years ago. Handling all of this correctly will require true statesmanship, which means thinking through consequences. Merkel is failing that test spectacularly. "

This has never been about race... 8million foreign newcomers is far too many for a small country like Britain to absorb

    Daily Mail
It has just been revealed that the number of people who were born abroad and are now living in Britain has hit a staggering 8.3 million.
That’s almost exactly the population of London, our capital city.

While we remain in the EU and chained to the pernicious Human Rights Act (another broken Tory promise), we are powerless to prevent mass immigration, both from within and without Europe.
It’s pointless putting forward any proposals to stem the human tide and protect our borders, since the political will simply doesn’t exist.
Donald Trump, the U.S. presidential candidate, may be a rabble-rousing circus act, but he is surely correct when he says a country which won’t secure its borders isn’t a country at all.
The 8.3 million already here are only those we know about. How many are here illegally?
The Government can’t, or more likely won’t, say.
But getting on for 15 years ago, the then Commissioner of the Met told me he reckoned there were at least 300,000 people living in London the police knew nothing about.
What’s the score today? Your guess is as good as mine."

BBC coverage of the migrant crisis is the gospel of the liberal left

    CW
It’s plain that many if not most now camped out in Budapest and Kos and Calais are not ‘refugees’ or ’asylum seekers’. Because of the EU’s open borders, no one seems to have a clue about their point of origin or their reasons for being here.
The suspicion is that a high proportion are economic migrants; pictures suggest they are mostly male and they are desperately trying to queue jump in order to get what they want.
This is potentially worrying because it suggests the beginnings of the complete disintegration of border controls. The EU’s ‘free movement’ principle has seemingly transmuted into a total free-for-all."

This child's death was tragic but it was not our fault

    Daily Mail
Which brings us back to the child’s corpse on the beach in Turkey. I repeat, it’s awful. Heartbreaking. But it’s not our fault, and it’s not our responsibility, however compassionate we might feel.
The father told the Mail that the family were fleeing the war in Syria when the dinghy capsized.
Miraculously, he survived, although he couldn’t save his wife and two children.
But here’s what puzzles me. They’d been living in Turkey for the past year. So why didn’t he apply for asylum there? After all, surely culturally Syria has more in common with Turkey, another Muslim country, than with Tunbridge Wells or Trondheim.
We’re also told that he’s a Kurd. So why didn’t he move to Kurdistan? Who knows? And that’s just the point. No one knows anything for sure.
Similarly, the shocking death of a child should never be exploited just because media tarts and ‘liberal’ luvvies such as Jackboots Jacqui and the absurd Emma Thompson can feel good about themselves.
However horrible, however tragic such cases are, they’re not a sensible basis for a realistic asylum policy."

Tragic Aylan's final journey: Father of drowned boys returns home to bury his wife and two sons - in the war-torn city of Kobane

    Daily Mail
The barber had paid people smugglers £2,900 over the course of three attempts to reach Greece from a refugee camp in Turkey."

OPINION: This man is responsible for the deaths of his wife and children. He took them from a safe place - Turkey - and placed them at great risk using people traffickers and THEY paid with their lives.
    From the comments:
"Ok it's time all EU countries return anyone that comes by boat! Let them know if they do they will be refused entry full stop! Then this would stop the trafficking and the drowning,"
"These children and their parents left the safe haven of Turkey and in the Father's own words undertook a hazardous journey on an unsuitable boat on rough seas. Turkey is not an island, it has land borders with European countries, just not very attractive countries to migrants. Migrants are dying because when they are safe from ISIS/war/famine etc, they choose to head for a 'prosperous' life in Western Europe."
"Cameron, would you enlighten us as to where the UK is going to find the 'thousands of houses' needed to accommodate the 'thousands of refugees/economic migrants' that you have agreed to take? What about their health care, school places for their children and of course Benefits for the whole bunch? Where are the jobs? We can't house, provide adequate healthcare & schooling for our own people. As for jobs, what a laugh - the influx of 'free movement' workers has taken care of that! What's the long-term plan, I'm sure we'd all like to know! "

"Very sad story, but this country had its own problems, 50,000 children on the at risk register in Britain today. So before the lefty tree huggers invite every refugee into the UK, I would suggest we fix our own mess first."

For pity's sake, we must shut the borders: DANIEL HANNAN says the only way to control who comes here is to leave the EU

    Daily Mail
What, then, is the solution? First, Schengen needs to go. The Euro-fanatics have done enough damage in their pursuit of political integration.
The restoration of sovereign borders would mean the authorities of each country no longer had an incentive to wave migrants through, knowing they would become someone else’s responsibility.
Second, we need to follow Australia’s example. Faced with a surge of seaborne migration, it towed ships to an island and processed claims offshore.
Since then, there has not been a single death through drowning and far fewer people attempt the journey.
To emulate Australia, though, we would have to stop interpreting the 1951 Refugee Convention in a way that obliges us to allow every asylum-seeker to remain in the EU while their claim is assessed.
That charter was designed in a very different age. Its authors were understandably haunted by the memory of the Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany in the 1930s who had been turned away from safe countries.
They could not have dreamed of an era of cheap travel, when perhaps two billion people could theoretically claim to be victims of oppression.
To do what the Australians have done, the EU would have to abandon a great many accords, starting with its Charter of Fundamental Rights.
That, though, is unlikely to happen. So if Britain wants to control its borders, it will have to do so unilaterally, by leaving the EU.
Ministers are tying themselves in knots trying to avoid this conclusion.
But all the schemes they propose – tightening benefits, requiring evidence of a job – fail to address the huge, clunking fact that, as long as we are in the EU, we cannot control who settles here or in what numbers.
Eventually, our hand may be forced. With no let-up in the numbers reaching Italy across the Mediterranean, there will come a point when the Rome government, tired of carrying the burden for other EU states, gives identity documents to all those migrants who want to move on and settle in Germany or Britain or Sweden.
The only question is whether this moment comes before or after Britain’s referendum.
If it comes before, no force on Earth will persuade people to remain in.
If it comes after we’ve voted to stay, it will be too late to change our minds."

Barack Obama's diplomatic 'reset' has let Vladimir Putin get away with murder

    Telegraph
By 2012, a still clueless Obama mocked Mitt Romney for saying that Russia is "without question our No. 1 geopolitical foe," quipping oh so cleverly: "The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back." After all, he explained, "the Cold War's been over for 20 years."
Turned out it was 2015 calling. Obama's own top officials have been retroactively vindicating Romney. Last month, Obama's choice for chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff declared that "Russia presents the greatest threat to our national security." Two weeks ago, the retiring Army chief of staff, Raymond Odierno, called Russia our "most dangerous" military threat. Obama's own secretary of defense has gone one better: "Russia poses an existential threat to the United States."

These numbers suggest that most or virtually all young Muslim settlers in the UK support ISIS.
That's not surprising. Major papers such as the New York Times have found similar results in even supposedly moderate countries such as Tunisia among young Muslim natives. It's not surprising that young Muslim settlers in Europe hold similar views."

Multiculturalism is a cancer, our enemy is the savage cultures that exist domestically and come from other countries

There are, unfortunately, some cultures that cannot contribute to the progress of civilization.
We need to stop pretending otherwise. This open borders stuff is suicidal. We are getting everything we don’t want in this new wave of 3rd world immigration that started with the Teddy Kennedy immigration bill of the 70s and continued with Reagan amnesty in the 80s–we are getting the dregs from 3rd world countries with only a few exceptions. We don’t allow immigration of any degree from 1st world countries–we are becoming a dumping ground and our prisons are filling with foreign born monsters. ........
Ann Coulter is a U of Michigan Law Graduate who clerked for an appellate judge, but you know her as the polemicist and commentator/writer for the conservative point of view.
Her new book reveals the horrors of uncontrolled illegal and legal immigration and how it imports a criminality that is malignant and savage in its intensity and depravity but is covered up by the open borders political and media people who intimidate law enforcement into not revealing the magnitude of the problem. We can’t even get reliable info on nations of origin and immigration status for heinous felons and the incarcerated.
I would recommend that you read the accounts of crimes–but not too much at one time for the barbarity that is almost incomprehensible–beheadings, murders, terrorist type violence, rape, child abuse, and then ask yourself how could we be so blind?
There is a foreign rape culture that is now coming to America.
Violent killers and rapists are coming in and now fill up our jails but worse–they are not being jailed."

Inside the Milibunker: the last days of Ed

    Spectator (Dan Hodges)
Labour’s failure to realise the true state of the ‘ground war’ was crippling. In the last days of a campaign, it is vital for the parties to have an accurate picture of what is happening in constituencies, so they can allocate workers and other important resources.
It used to work perfectly: in the old days, the Labour spin doctor Damian McBride used to win favours with journalists by sharing the party’s confidential internal polling, which was always spot on. This time, it failed. Miliband’s troops were effectively fighting blind. Blame for this abject failure of basic intelligence gathering has been viciously apportioned to several areas. Some are quick to point the finger at Labour HQ. ‘It wasn’t fit for purpose from day one,’ a shadow cabinet adviser told me. ‘The first day we turned up, we were told there weren’t enough workstations and some of us would have to spend the campaign working from home. Then someone discovered there was one mid-level official who still had a company car because he’d been with the party since the 1970s and that was still written into his contract.’      .............Ed Miliband was an idealist until the end. He surrounded himself with academics, took inspiration from political textbooks and had an extraordinary ability to detach himself from the hue and cry of daily politics. He created his own world and lived in it. This explains his preternatural calm and his astonishing self-belief — but it also explains why he drove his party over a cliff."
