On Wednesday, the New York Post revealed various sordid details about Hunter’s private life, including the suggestion that Biden Snr might have met an official from Burisma – the Ukrainian energy firm his son worked for – while he was Vice-President.Given the seriousness of the allegations, you might have expected them to dominate the news. Oddly, they didn’t. Thanks in no small part to the intervention of Twitter and Facebook.No sooner had the story gone live than Twitter told users the link to the newspaper site was ‘unsafe’ and blocked them from sharing it in tweets or private messages. Facebook downplayed the report on news feeds pending ‘independent verification’ by ‘fact checkers’ – in both cases effectively suppressing the report.  ......

In the case of Clegg, there is something distasteful, not to say dishonest, about a man who singularly failed to secure power by open democratic means – the good people of Sheffield kicked him out as an MP in 2017 – and acquired it instead surreptitiously via the back door. He and his cronies want Biden to win, believing – as all illiberal liberals do – that they know best, and the end ultimately justifies the means. And the usual rules of honesty, transparency and fair play don’t, ultimately, apply to them. And the truth is, they don’t. It’s increasingly apparent that whoever controls social media, controls America. Unless people realise this – and stop playing the game according to their rules, we might as well just accept it. 

And that includes Britain. Because as with all these things, if it’s happening over there, it’s only a matter of time before it happens over here."

Who could resist such a plea? Millions cheerfully surrendered treasured freedoms for the common good, thinking they would soon get them back when the job was done.The NHS was not overwhelmed (and it is far from clear that it ever would have been). But the weeks passed, and what happened? ....We had a serious case of mission creep. Somehow the task had now become one never previously attempted or achieved by any society, the virtual suppression of the virus itself. We were not free to return to our normal lives. On the contrary, every few days brought a new alleged alarm.  .....when the Government began to voice fears of a supposed ‘second wave’ of Covid, and moves to get us back to work were halted. Indeed, the Government tried very hard to find such a second wave, launching a highly successful nationwide hunt for healthy people who could be said to be infected by the virus. .....He also seemed incapable of noticing that the great bulk of the positive test ‘cases’ of which he makes so much involved people who were and remained perfectly well.The reassuring facts, that doctors have quickly learned how to treat the disease effectively, that many hospitalisations tend to be brief, that many people are now recovering after successful treatments and the use of new and effective drugs, were likewise somehow underplayed.   .....

Socialists are using 'hysteria over COVID as a weapon of economic destruction'

Sky News contributor Cory Bernardi says the panic surrounding the health pandemic is being used as a weapon by socialists wanting to bring about economic destruction to usher in the introduction of the Green New Deal. “There is something unusual about the continuing pandemic panic,” Mr Bernardi said. “Medical experts now acknowledge that lockdowns don't work, they say that treatment with Hydroxychloroquine and zinc does work and that government responses globally have led to a massive destruction of wealth, wellbeing and work. “Now none of that makes any sense until you open your mind to consider if there is another agenda at work.” Mr Bernardi said behind the COVID-19 pandemic hysteria was an agenda to bring about social and economic change. Klaus Schwab, founder and Chairman of the World Economic Forum, said “COVID 19 cases have shown us that our old systems are not fit anymore for the 21st century, it has laid bare a fundamental lack of social cohesion, fairness, inclusion and equality. “Now is the historical moment of time not only to fight the … virus but to shape the system ... for the post-corona era,” Mr Schwab said. "(Mr Schwab) admits that COVID is the new excuse to usher in the Green New Deal that climate alarmists, profiteers and big government have been pushing for years," Mr Bernardi said. “Think about it, the global response to COVID has been a green socialist's dream." Mr Bernardi said the pandemic brought about a reduction in the use of fossil fuel, caused next to no international travel, ensured welfare for all, saw civil liberties curtailed and has seen the government run by bureaucrats. “Why do you think the Australian Greens have been so quiet these past months ... it’s because their policy agenda is coming to life,” he said. “After decades of peddling climate change lies and propaganda to force government by the elites, the socialists have used a media induced hysteria over public health as their latest weapon of economic destruction.”

....Lockdown was worth a try to buy a few weeks respite for the NHS and its dangerously under pressure intensive care wards, but the Government seems to be arguing that if a lockdown proves ineffective, it is because it is insufficiently draconian.

In fact, it is now becoming clear it is simply the wrong policy. Those who dissented from the Government’s Covid-19 strategy have been dismissed as mavericks on the fringes of the scientific establishment. However, this is no longer the case.  ......The problem with Mr Johnson’s strategy is that he is seeking artificially to suppress infection among the healthy – who suffer mild or no symptoms – while betting the bank on a vaccine which may not work.

That is why I felt I had to join scientific colleagues around the world and co-sign the Great Barrington Declaration – which is named after the American town where it was drafted. Since then we have been joined by more than 3,000 public health scientists and 4,500 medical practitioners.  ........

.....The damage can scarcely be imagined now, but one day it will be measured in children who are not now being immunised, cancer and stroke patients going undiagnosed and untreated, and a shattered economy unable to fund the NHS.

In a doomed attempt to suppress this virus, while believing in a perfect vaccine as a silver bullet, the Government is setting itself up to fail – and at a terrible cost to us all.

COVID bans 'aren't keeping people safe, they're destroying the joint'

Sky News host Andrew Bolt says Australia’s recession was caused by politicians and Australia should call them out, because their bans are not keeping people safe, but are “destroying the joint”. “On Tuesday we saw the price of our virus hysteria,” Mr Bolt said. “Huge unemployment, people getting poorer and record government debt. So much debt – getting on to a trillion dollars by 2024 – that I'd bet that no one my age will see it ever repaid.” Mr Bolt said the bans which caused Australia’s recession also seem to have caused increased suicides among boys and elderly men, and have caused many to miss cancer screenings, leading to the fear people will die from diseases which otherwise could have been picked up in time. “Now, you would think, now that we see the wreckage caused by this hysteria that every political leader's mind would now be focussed on getting us back to work,” he said. “And that can be done safely. “Instead, in two states today more evidence that some politicians just don't get it. They've either got tunnel vision or reckon there are votes in playing up the scare, whatever the cost.” Mr Bolt said the Queensland Premier has “dreamed up this rule” where she wouldn’t open the border to NSW unless it went 28 consecutive days without having a single new infection it could not trace within 48 hours to an earlier case. On Tuesday night, NSW found three so-called mystery cases, and so far has tracked down causes for just two. “So if it doesn't solve the last case, then bang – the border to Queensland will stay closed for another month, with all the cost to business, with all the grief to people wanting to travel on holidays to see family,” he said. Mr Bolt said insanity was catching as the Premier in Western Australia had taken the same attitude as Ms Palaszczuk. In Victoria, the premier “also came up with some made-up target for ending” the “worst lockdown” in the world, Mr Bolt said. He added it did not seem likely Victoria would meet the set target to progress to the next stage of its reopening plan on October 19. “I think, unless Victoria's mad government backs down, Melbourne will stay locked down for who knows how long,” he said. Mr Bolt exhorted Australians to call politicians out for causing the country’s recession. “Call them out on it. You might think they're keeping you safe with their bans. But they're not. They're destroying the joint, really hurting people, and it's got to stop,” he said.
