More than 80,000 Canadians sign petition demanding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle pay their own way

Daily Mail
More than 80,000 Canadians have signed a petition demanding that Prince Harry and Meghan foot the bill for their security detail while they are in the country.
The petition was started by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation as Laurel Collins, the MP for Victoria where Harry and Meghan are staying, said taxpayers should not be forced to pay for the Sussexes' security.   Harry and Meghan are on Vancouver Island preparing to forge a new life for themselves and their eight-month-old son, Archie, after stepping back from royal duties.
It is unclear who will foot the bill for the family's security arrangements when they officially leave the monarchy in the spring."

Meghan tells friends it was her love for Harry that made their new life possible and he'll flourish now, as she insists their spirits were being crushed by royal family

Daily Mail

till, a number of unresolved issues remain, including whether Harry and Meghan will be required to strip the word 'Royal' from their SussexRoyal website, and who will pick up the hefty bill for their continuing security requirements. However, Meghan's friend told DailyMail.com: 'Meghan and Harry are not planning on changing their website or Instagram name. They are still considered the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. And they will keep the Royal part in. Meghan 'will continue making surprise visits to different places that help women and children. She wants to feel embraced by her community, something she says she didn't feel in the UK. She felt stifled and restricted.'   ....."

Harry and Meghan's 24-hour security detail DOES include British police bodyguards - as well as Canadian 'Mounties' - as couple face questions over who pays the £3million bill

Daily Mail
  • Meghan being protected by her regular UK police bodyguard aided by Mountie
  • Harry also accompanied on Vancouver trip with at least two more from the Met
  • Team of six - likely to be three Brits and three Canadian - believed to be in place
  • Security deal still not agreed - but taxpayers in both countries may pick up bill
  • Source said: 'This is likely to be the arrangement for the Sussexes going forward until the deal over who pays is thrashed out'

Meghan: The daughter-in-law from hell

Laura Perrins
MAYBE Meghan Markle should have taken some time to watch The Crown before deciding to take on the Queen. If she had, she could have saved herself and Harry a lot of humiliation. If she had, she would have understood that the Crown always wins.  .....
Truly, Meghan is the woman every mother lives in dread that her son will one day bring home; the beautiful woke woman who will prise your darling boy not into life of virtue and masculine independence, but into a life of self-absorption and self-pity that also entails the all-too-familiar cutting of family ties and self-ruin. "

#Megxit! Ex-Prince Harry Got Woke, Now He’s Broke…

Breitbart
This time a year ago, Prince Harry had the world at his feet .....Now, he’s a nobody. Or at best, an ex-Someone........Where did it all go so wrong for the poor lad?  Simple. Ex-Prince Harry is perhaps the most tragic living example of Get Woke, Go Broke.  ....Why did he not see all this coming?
The answer is, of course, that when a man is under the glamour of a Circe-like enchantress he becomes immune to reason. His big brother William, with whom he had the closest of relationships, did try to explain — urging him to live with Meghan for a few months before committing to matrimony — but his warnings fell on deaf ears. What Harry should have realised is that the Royal Family is, perhaps above all else, ruthlessly geared towards its own survival."

The Duke of Sussex brusquely rips up royal unity again by saying deal is NOT what he wanted

Daily Mail

With the ink barely dry on the deal that allows him to escape the straitjacket of being a working royal, Harry's sudden decision to use a private event to pass a very public judgement on it was not just discourteous to the Royal Family, but also dramatically undermined the harmonious accord it had been presented as hours earlier.   .......Coming just 24 hours after he had apparently signed off on the agreement struck between him, the Queen and his father Prince Charles, Harry's anguish couldn't be clearer: he was telling the world that this was not what he wanted.  ......
Did Harry wilfully misinterpret this kindness or was he simply hell-bent on showing that his exclusion from those aspects of his royal life which mean the most to him was not his doing?
As someone who has followed the fortunes of Prince Harry for this newspaper since his first day at nursery school, I would like to think that it is the latter."

At last, a nation of sense has awoken and the snowflakes are feeling the heat

The Sun

Actor Laurence Fox rejected claims Harry and Meghan are being driven out of the UK by racism.
But he did more than that. He warned the Left’s obsession is providing a cloak for crime.
The Sussexes’ decision to quit was “not racism”, he told a cheering crowd. “We’re the most tolerant, lovely country in Europe.”
Significantly, the applause came not from the far Right but from right-on BBC Question Time — an audience carefully chosen, stressed presenter Fiona Bruce, to reflect Britain by age, sex and politics.
Fox — famous as DS James Hathaway in TV’s Lewis — was instantly denounced as a “privileged white male” and therefore with no right to an opinion.
“Oh, God!” he cried. “I can’t help what I am, I was born like this. It’s an immutable characteristic, so to call me a white privileged male is to be racist.”
His landmark moment went viral."

'What a piece of work': Piers Morgan says he is only surprised it took Meghan this long to get Harry to ditch his family

Daily Mail
.....The enraged Good Morning Britain host continued to vent his outrage by saying: 'Bottom line: Meghan/Harry wanted to have their cake and eat it, but the Queen just took the cake back to the royal kitchens.' Morgan then began replying to other Twitter users with his opinion on certain aspects of the couple's new role.
In response to ITV News's Royal Editor Chris Ship, who tweeted a quote from the former Head of the Navy on the topic of Harry stepping down, Morgan wrote: 'Staggering that Harry would turn his back on the military like this.'  ....."

'They're turning the Royal Family into a Walmart with a crown on': Meghan Markle's father Thomas launches an extraordinary TV attack on Megxit

Daily Mail
In a TV documentary, Thomas Markle describes Meghan and Harry's behaviour as embarrassing, says they are 'turning into lost souls' and, in a reference to a discount American supermarket giant, adds: 'They are turning it [the Royal Family] into a Walmart with a crown on.'  .....
He tells the Channel 5 documentary: 'When they got married they took on an obligation, and the obligation is to be part of the Royals and to represent the Royals. And it would be foolish for them not to. 'This is one of the greatest long-living institutions ever. They are destroying it, they are cheapening it, making it shabby… they shouldn't be doing this.'

Moment Prince Harry tells Lion King director Jon Favreau his wife is available for work

Daily Mail
Now new footage has been found which shows the couple talking to the film's director Jon Favreau, star BeyoncĂ© and her rap star husband Jay-Z, and Harry, 35, again praising his wife's acting abilities.
He tells Mr Favreau: 'If anyone needs any extra voiceover work…' before Meghan interrupts and jokes: 'That's really why we're here – it's the pitch!'
Harry then says '… just not Scar' – a reference to the evil uncle in The Lion King who tries to steal the kingdom from Simba."

Taxpayers look set to keep paying £7.6million-a-year security bill as Harry, Meghan an Archie start new life in Canada

Daily Mail
It seems the taxpayer will continue to pay Prince Harry and Meghan's £7.6million-a-year security bill, even though the couple have dropped their HRH titles.  There has been a growing row about who will pick up the couple's annual security bill as they split their time between the UK and Canada. And Buckingham Palace's bombshell announcement this evening didn't directly address the issue.....
......Nearly three quarters of Canadians do not want to pay for Prince Harry and Meghan's move to the country or to pay for their security arrangements, a new poll has found. Seven-in-ten (73 per cent) said that they would prefer Canada not pitch in any money. For one-in-five (19 per cent), some cost sharing is appropriate, while only a handful of Canadians would willingly pay for all costs (3 per cent). The survey was conducted was conducted from January 13-14 this year by a randomized sample of 1,154 Canadian adults."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quit royal life COMPLETELY: Couple drop HRH titles, will REPAY £2.4m spent on Frogmore Cottage

Daily Mail
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no longer to use their HRH titles and will repay £2.4million of taxpayers' money spent on renovating their Frogmore Cottage home, Buckingham Palace announced tonight, as a Megxit deal was sealed. The couple, who will be known as Harry, Duke of Sussex and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, will stop carrying out royal duties from the spring.

'The Sussexes will not use their HRH titles as they are no longer working members of the Royal Family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home.
'Buckingham Palace does not comment on the details of security arrangements. There are well established independent processes to determine the need for publicly funded security. This new model will take effect in the Spring of 2020.'

While they said the couple will no longer receive public cash, it is unclear whether the Prince will still receive the estimated £2.3million a year he gets from his father Prince Charles's Duchy of Cornwall coffers.

Lecturer taunts actor Laurence Fox after furious Meghan Markle racism debate on BBC's Question Time in which he told her 'calling me a white privileged male is racist - YOU'RE being racist!'

Daily Mail

  • Woman was later to revealed to be Rachel Boyle from Edge Hill University
  • She said that Meghan had been 'torn to shreds' in Britain since marrying Harry
  • 'Let's call it by its name, it's racism, she's a black woman,' she told QT audience
  • Actor said 'It's not racism' and Ms Boyle blasted him as 'white privileged male'
  • Laurence rolled his eyes, looked to the heavens and exclaimed: 'Oh my God!'
  •
  • From the comments:
He's right! Finally someone with a brain has the balls to stand up and say what everyone is thinking. We are a lovely tolerant country. Meghan left off her own accord because she couldn't make it work for herself here. What people don't like is the hypocrisy and the all about me attitude which has nothing at all to do with race!

As Harry’s biographer, I fear the worst for him

Angela Levin

‘ARE you having a nice day, ma’am?’ asked the black driver earlier this week as I settled down in the back seat of his cab.   ‘I’m very busy going round TV studios to talk about Meghan and Harry,’ I replied. ‘That woman!’ he snapped. ‘She’s got him round her little finger. She was after his money and title and now she’s got it she’s off.’ ‘Some people say she hasn’t felt welcome in the UK because she’s mixed race.’ ‘No,’ he said firmly. ‘It’s just an excuse.  I feel sorry for the prince.’......How has it come to this? An insider told me that Meghan thought that marrying a British prince would give her the much-longed for opportunity to become a global figure on the world stage and campaign for her often Left-wing and woke causes. She got it wrong, but has been at work remedying the situation and is in line to make millions. "

Diversity and our broken system

Andrew Cadman

On Wednesday, not a single paper led with the terrible, heart-rending news from Manchester on yet another grooming gang scandal, centering on the death of Victoria Agoglia (warning: extremely harrowing).      A system that successfully shut down existential matters of debate not just for years but for decades, where repeated scandals concerning the mass rape and deaths of young girls are swept under the carpet while campaigners face years of abuse and harassment from the authorities, is broken indeed.
When will we have an honest debate on Islam and the terrible subcultures it incubates within it? Although it would clearly be wrong to demonise all Muslims and all interpretations of Islam, how much longer can we ignore the dangers of a faith with a rapidly growing demographic whose holy book and prophet preached, in part, violent sectarianism, misogyny, the legitimisation of rape and the acceptability of sex with girls as soon as they start to menstruate? How much longer will we deny the undeniable: that such theology is highly likely to create the barbarous cultures that prey upon young girls? Instead, we are edging ever closer to Islamophobia laws."

Racism isn’t to blame for Meghan Markle’s soaring unpopularity — her treatment of the Queen and taxpayer is

The Sun
WHAT is it that leftie nitwits still cannot grasp as they blame racism for Meghan’s plight — and lazily defame the most welcoming nation on Earth?
Skin colour has nothing to do with it. She and Harry broke the simple contract between the Royals and the public: We pay the money. They do their duty.
Many of those attacking our people and Press simply don’t understand the deal. This entitled pair want the lifestyle without the work. And they have treated the Queen abysmally — as well as the taxpayers who bankrolled their lavish, joyous wedding and their luxury home.
Meghan’s soaring unpopularity is down solely to that. She could shore it up, if she still cares, admitting racism played no part. There is no evidence it did. But then it suits her political soulmates to pretend there can be no reasonable objection to her behaviour. That may change once her case against the Mail on Sunday begins. It now seems her father was shabbily treated by this “woke” couple too."

Canada's biggest newspaper says Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not welcome and they should not treat the country as a 'halfway house'

Daily Mail
  • The Globe and Mail, a conservative, traditionally monarchist paper condemned the couple's move to Canada
  • It comes after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed the Sussexes and said they 'were among friends'
  • But paper said Canada 'not a halfway house for anyone looking to get out of Britain while remaining a royal'
  • It comes after Queen announced 'transition period' following Monday's crisis talks at Sandringham
  • Her Majesty confirmed the Sussexes 'will spend time in Canada and the UK' but details were glaringly sparse
  • Despite much interest over who will foot bill, The Globe and Mail says the issue is a deeper constitutional one
  • It said: 'This country's unique monarchy, and its delicate yet essential place in our constitutional system, means that a royal resident – the prince is sixth in the line – is not something that Canada can allow'

Why we're worried about Meghan and Harry's marriage

Niki Swift

That said, for every adorable moment the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared, there seems to have been an equal amount of speculation about every move they've made, especially since welcoming son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in May 2019. The Sussexes have remained a constant target of media scrutiny. They sure seem as in love as ever, but as long as tabloids exist, we won't be able to help but be a little concerned for their couplehood. Here are a few reasons why we're worried about Meghan and Harry's marriage." (Dec 2019)

Flight bill for royal protection officers soared by more than £1m after Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry and will go higher when couple relocate to Canada

Daily Mail
Flight costs for royal protection officers soared by more than £1million after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry got married, figures show.
The budget on air travel for bodyguards protecting the Royal Family rose from £3.47million in 2016-17, to £4.62million in 2018-19.
The cost of hotel stays has also increased from £1.12 million in 2016-17 to more than £2 million in 2017-18, amid fears from senior officers that the security bill is 'spiralling out of control.'
The taxpayer funded budget for Met Police protection officers is expected to rise even further when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who married in May 2018, split their time between North America and the UK.

Bannon: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Are The New Clintons

WarRoom
“This is a bombshell,” Bannon began discussing the billionaire Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are leaving the Royal Family to live with in Canada.
“If you read Clinton Cash, [Frank Guistra is] the villain in back of all these [deals],” Bannon explained. “A penny stock operator, one of the most corrupt guys in Canada. He’s in back of the Uranium One deal. He’s the one doing all these companies, flipping them around – next thing you know they’ve got a billion dollars of value with mining rights somewhere. He is a complete penny stock promoter up in Vancouver, which is the dodge city of capital markets.”  “It turns out that he’s the billionaire who’s place [Markle] is hanging out with in Vancouver,” Bannon continued. He explained Giustra history with the Clinton’s: “This guy is the Clinton Foundation.
“Giustra admitted in 2006 to the New Yorker: ‘all of my chips, almost, are on Bill Clinton. He’s a brand, a worldwide brand. And he can do things and ask for things that no one else can.’ You saw Prince Harry there begging and pleading Disney to allow Meghan Markle to do voiceovers. Embarrassing.”
“This is why they want to get the Sussex brand, the Sussex Royals. You don’t think Frank Giustra came up with that idea? He says: ‘we’re going to brand you guys, you’ve got to break you off from the family. We’re taking you to Hollywood. We’re taking you global.'”  (podcast)

Justin Trudeau's finance minister says government has NOT decided if Canada will cover $1.7m security costs for Megxit

Daily Mail
Canada's finance minister says its government has not yet decided if it will cover the $1.7 million it will cost to provide security for Harry and Meghan after the couple decided to move to North America.    .....It follows reports that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had already promised the Queen that Canada - and its taxpayers - would help pay for the couple's security.  Trudeau also assured the Queen that the family would be safe while in his country with Canada expected to pay around half of the estimated $1.7 million annual security bill, London's Evening Standard claimed. "

Markle kept her Hollywood power lawyer, agent and business manager despite joining the royal family - and moved her company to secretive Delaware days before Megxit

Daily Mail
And with the announcement last week that Meghan and Harry are to step down as 'senior royals' and become financially independent, her team is now primed for the next chapter – and has already begun making moves, quietly relocating her business interests to the ultra-discreet state of Delaware.  ....The move shows that Meghan plans to keep her and Harry's business as secret as possible.

And the Oscar for Best Actress goes to... Meghan Markle

Daily Mail
There appears to be no limit to Meghan’s self-absorption and obsession with privacy, when it suits her.  .......Meghan has announced via ‘friends’ that she won’t live in the U.S. while the evil Donald Trump remains President.  .....Funny how she won’t live in a country run by ‘racist’ Trump, but sucks up to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, who has been caught out blacking up, not once but several times.
She’s also playing the victim card for all it’s worth — those ‘friends’ again threatening a warts ’n’ all interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which she will smear the Royal Family as racist and sexist, unless she gets the settlement she wants. As Home Secretary Priti Flamingo says, the idea that Meghan has been forced out of Britain by racism is beyond absurd."

royal negotiators start hammering out Megxit questions over couple's funding and titles

Daily Mail
Prince Charles is said to be focussed on money because Harry relies on his father's annual £2.3million Duchy of Cornwall payment to meet family bills.  The Prince of Wales has already lavished a small fortune on his younger son, from his wedding to the fitting out Frogmore cottage – the Windsor house he is now largely going to vacate when he uproots to North America. A friend said: 'He doesn't have unlimited resources. Harry needs to know that.'

Meghan and the road to Oprah’s Kleenex

Laura Perrins

LET me tell you where this Harry and Meghan trail of destruction is going to end: on Oprah Winfrey’s couch. Trust me. A fair few seminal moments in celebrity culture have occurred on that couch (Tom Cruise never recovered) and Meghan is first and foremost a celebrity.     ......
Finally, it would be one thing if this wrecking-ball approach to family negotiation (give us everything we want or we will destroy you) were going to make this couple happy. My sense is that they will never be happy. So it will have all been for nothing.
Soon enough Meghan will be on Oprah Winfrey’s couch calling us all racists. You can take that to the bank.  "

PIERS MORGAN: Meghan and Harry haven’t been criticized because of her color but because she’s a selfish social climber and he’s a weak whiner - and by playing this despicable race card they have grossly libeled all of Britain

Daily Mail

And now that lie is being extended from a charge against the media to even bigger targets with sinister threats of a ‘tell-all’ TV interview in which Meghan and Harry might apparently level sensational charges of sexism and racism at the door of other senior royals and their households.
I refuse to believe that has happened either, and I’m repulsed at this veiled attempt to blackmail the Queen into giving them what they want.
The reality is that Meghan and Harry have brought this ugly situation entirely on themselves and should somehow find the strength in their faux-victim-ravaged, virtue-signalling, self-obsessed souls to admit it has nothing to do with racism and everything to do with their fragile egos and a simmering feud with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who will always be more important in the Royal Family as they will one day be King and Queen.
By crying ‘RACISTS!’ in the face of perfectly legitimate criticism, this petulant duo has made a mockery of true victims of racism.
Shame on them, and all those who promote this grotesquely false smear.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle quietly set up a business BEFORE announcing they would quit Royal roles .. and have already used it to apply for trademarks

Daily Mail

The couple established the company MWX Trading Ltd last August, naming their lawyer, Gerrard Tyrrell, as its secretary and Natalie Campbell, who works for their charitable foundation Sussex Royal, as director.
They registered it at Companies House and have already used the business to apply for trademarks.
One was for the name Travalyst, an initiative which ‘seeks to change how travel impacts local communities’; the other for Travalyst’s logo.      .......
The news follows my disclosure last month, inset, that Harry and Meghan had revealed the scale of their ambitions in trademark applications they had made for Sussex Royal.
Documents published by the Intellectual Property Office disclosed that the couple had applied for trademarks on everything from ‘emotional support services’ to clothing, including bandanas and sportswear. Perhaps most intriguing of all was the application to trademark ‘magazines, newspapers, newsletters [and] periodicals’.

Barack and Michelle Obama are advising Meghan and Harry on their new life outside the Royal Family... with Duchess set to copy their use of 'star power' to promote 'humanistic projects'

Daily Mail

Sources confirmed Harry and Meghan had discussed their plans with the former US president and his wife and wanted to mimic the way they had managed to build a successful, but dignified, life for themselves after the White House. A source said: ‘They have found huge commercial success without actually looking like they are getting their hands dirty, to put it bluntly, and retaining their popularity.
‘In fact it is fair to say that their star has soared since leaving the White House, particularly Michelle’s, and this is something Meghan admires very, very much.’

'It's always her way or the highway - she flees when things get heavy': Friends and family of Meghan Markle open up

Daily Mail
Among the innumerable fascinating traits I uncovered when researching Meghan Markle's life story was her fondness for homespun mottos. She seemed to have an aphorism to suit almost every eventuality. One was recited to her friends whenever she embarked on some landmark venture, such as a career move or a new relationship. 'Never give it five minutes if you're not prepared to give it five years,' she would declare (omitting to say this mantra was originally coined by her first husband, Trevor Engelson). That it has taken Meghan considerably less time — just 20 months — to decide she cannot adjust to the rigours of royal duty may have shocked the British public.  .....'She has been able to move fast because this has been planned for months. She is running a campaign. This is not just an exit. It is a long-game strategy that has been set in motion for some time.'   ......
Intriguingly, I am told that, in the dying days of her marriage to Engelson, he and Meghan retreated to the island ( Vancouver Island), with its magnificent forests and wild coastline, in a last-ditch attempt to reconcile their differences. They stayed in a house belonging to the family of her fellow Suits cast member Patrick Adams.   ....... Soon after, she divorced Engelson (returning his wedding and engagement rings by post) and began a relationship with Cory Vitiello, a celebrity chef she met in Toronto, where she was filming Suits, the TV soap that brought her the fame she craved.  ....
And 60 per cent believe they should also stump up the £2.4million cost of the controversial refurbishment of the home. Only 25 per cent say they should not have to find the money.
An even bigger proportion, 76 per cent, reckon Harry and Meghan should not get another penny in support from Buckingham Palace or the Government – or Metropolitan Police protection – if they live abroad. Only 13 per cent say they should be able to retain these entitlements.....

Obamas help them prepare for lucrative jet-setting life after Megxit.....

Prince Harry will take his time securing best financial deal for his family

Daily Mail
Prince Harry is prepared to take his time as he attempts to negotiate a favourable exit deal from his front-line Royal duties, aides have revealed. The Duke of Sussex is set for showdown talks with his father Prince Charles and grandmother the Queen after he and Meghan Markle dropped the bombshell that they would be stepping back from their high-profile public roles in the Royal Family.
Harry is in no rush to strike a deal, as he is determined to secure the best possible financial terms for his family as they 'move towards being financially independent'. But the Queen has ordered their new stripped-back roles to be determined within the next 72 hours."

I'm worried about Prince Harry... I fear something is seriously amiss and he's on a trajectory of self-destruction,

Daily Mail

Yesterday, the Mail revealed that Meghan had returned to Canada to be reunited with eight-month-old Archie, whom they had left with his nanny and a close friend. Surely it will not be long before Harry is back with them, if indeed he’s not there already.

True, Meghan’s relationship with her own family is peculiar. Only one of them, her delightful mother Doria Ragland, attended their wedding; while Meghan isn’t speaking to her father or half-sister.
Now Harry is visibly estranged from his own family in a not dissimilar way. How much of all this is due to Meghan’s influence, I wouldn’t pretend to know."

Harry and Meghan’s embarrassing predicament

And now the Sussexes. Of course, the criticisms have already come. Meghan Markle, having fallen out with her own family, appears to have successfully helped Prince Harry to fall out with his. The fact that no member of the Royal Family was alerted to their decision in advance shows a remarkable degree of contempt for royal protocol. The fact that the Sussex’s statement describes supporting “Her Majesty the Queen” as though she is some brand with which they are happy to remain in alignment does not help. But if all this could have been foreseen, it is as nothing compared to the ease with which one can predict what comes next.
The Duke and Duchess are now used to being fawned over and sought out by the Beckham-Elton-Corden brand of celebrity: people who are delighted to have a member of the Royal Family in the vicinity. The Sussexes will presumably continue to enjoy holidaying at their homes, accepting their hospitality and generally free-loading.  ....Having come to fame because of their position, they have now decided to divorce themselves from that position and cast out on their own. But if the Sussexes think that the world they are leaving behind is cold, they can have no conception of the arctic towards which they are now headed.

61% of Canadians Back Harry to become Governor General

Guido Fawkes

Harry and Megan may not be the most popular people this side of the Atlantic at the moment, but the sixth in line to the throne prince can take solace in his popularity in his new home-from-home, Canada.
A recent poll found that 61% of Canadians want the Duke to become their new Governor-General. Interestingly, younger Canadians, in particular, are more enthusiastic than older generations. What is it about Canadians that draws them to superficial, woke, quasi-celebrity political figures? "

The Hypocrisy of Harry and Meghan’s Decision

The Atlantic

In Britain, hypocrisy is the killer charge, the worst sin of all.     ........And here we arrive at Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have announced that they are stepping back as senior members of the royal family, taking on fewer duties while continuing to “fully support” the Queen. The pair will split their time between Britain and North America in order to pursue more “cause-driven activities” and take greater control over their public engagements.....Another problem the pair appear not to understand is their desire to be progressive—but seemingly without the controversy and criticism that comes from taking a stance on issues of public debate. At heart, it’s unclear whether Harry and Meghan realize being progressive is not an apolitical act. .........In Britain, royalty and politics are not supposed to mix. The monarchy has a defined constitutional role as the “dignified” branch, symbolizing the state through ceremony and duty; the government as the “efficient” branch, running the country by passing laws through Parliament, which is elected. The two cannot mix. One is apolitical and unifying, the other political and inherently divisive."

Megan and Harry need to understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch

TOM HARWOOD

In the land of celebrity you can freely opine on politics and appeal to the woke with the only downside being serial election losses for your preferred candidates and an occasional Ricky Gervais rant. Royalty is different. Few get to choose that gilded life, so those who do must have a deeper sense of what it means. A royal life is not one of constant glamour and politicking around trendy causes, it is one of duty to your country.
There is no such thing as a free lunch. Everything comes at a cost, and if the Duke and Dutchess want to keep the benefits and ditch even more of the duties then they have another thing coming. It should come as no surprise that the Queen is disappointed. Megan and Harry acted surprised that people wanted to see their baby. They would rather not live in the UK. They want to fight political battles. They would rather not be seen or carry out their public facing role. That is clearly an unsustainable situation."

The Royal cash machines! PR experts predict Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could become the world’s highest-earning celebrity couple...

Daily Mail
Mr Torossian added: ‘The sky is the limit for the two of them.’ Until now, Harry’s senior royal status has prevented him from making money from his celebrity. He and Meghan have complained on their new website that they are ‘prohibited from earning any income’. As with all the royals, the precise details of how they fund their lavish lifestyles are kept opaque. But some sources of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wealth are known....... She made six-figure sums for various film roles and about £60,000 a year endorsing products while running her lifestyle blog, The Tig. She also owns property in Toronto. But all this could be small-fry compared with the global money-spinning opportunities that lie ahead. PR guru Mark Borkowski, who has worked with TV stars Noel Edmonds and Graham Norton, said: ‘They will make a fortune. I think around the world people will be falling over to get brand connections with them.’

Her Majesty deserves better than this and you don't have to be an ardent royalist to be thoroughly disgusted

Daily Mail
Same goes for Meghan Markle — shorn of her royal connections, she’d be just another obscure actress. Be honest, hands up if you’d ever heard of her before she got her hooks into Harry?
Me, neither. Apparently, her big break was holding the briefcase on the U.S. version of Deal Or No Deal.
She was also in something called Suits, which peaked at two million viewers on an American cable channel — just over 0.6 per cent of the available audience.
So she wasn’t even a household name in her homeland. In Britain, Suits went out on Dave — best known for showing endless repeats of Top Gear.
It is her relationship with the Prince which propelled her to international celebrity, not her unremarkable TV career. "

Twelve steps to Megxit: How Meghan and Harry felt apart from the Firm...

Daily Mail

And finally, the deepest cut of them all...

Just two weeks into the New Year and newly-arrived ‘home’ from a six-week overseas holiday, comes the most seismic punch of all: Meghan and Harry dramatically announce they are stepping down as senior royals, apparently without telling his grandmother (the Queen), father (Prince Charles) or brother (Prince William).
They even conspired to create a new website independent of the Royal Family, apparently without the knowledge of their UK-based Press team."

Prince William told Harry to heed his mother Diana's warning not to marry in haste - and then the rift began: reveal how the closest of brotherly bonds soured over Meghan

Daily Mail
Further tension in the lead-up to the event threatened to spill over after Meghan insisted she be allowed to choose a tiara once worn by Diana. This time it was the Queen who said no and instead allowed Meghan to wear the diamond lozenge bandeau made for Queen Mary in 1932.
Meghan accepted the Queen’s decision. But it seriously upset Harry and provoked his emotional outburst ‘what Meghan wants, Meghan gets’."

Meghan and Harry REFUSE to name the mystery 'Russian billionaire' who loaned them $14 million holiday mansion

Daily Mail
The latest disclosure comes amid their bombshell decision to quit their royal duties and split their time between the UK and North America. That decision was announced after spending more than two weeks over Christmas and New Year at Mille Fleurs, a $14 million seafront home close to Victoria, British Columbia. Five neighbors, a former colleague of the realtor who last sold the mansion, and a friend of the former owner all told DailyMail.com the current owner is a Russian businessman. Some said he is a billionaire. Meghan and Harry were introduced to the mystery owner by David Foster, a friend of the owner. Foster's wife Katherine McPhee was a school friend of the Duchess of Sussex."

....As well as drawing the ire of transparency campaigners, the cost of Harry and Meghan's vacation has irked some Canadian taxpayers.
At least four Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers were assigned to the couple's 24-hour protection unit, at an estimated cost of at least $240,000.
According to 2016 figures, RCMP sergeants earn $99,790 to $102,775 CAD, and DailyMail.com understands that the force assigned enough officers to give the royals a four-man 24-hour support unit for their six-week stay in Canada. Travel, overtime and other costs would have been on top.
An RCMP spokeswoman said: 'For security reasons, the RCMP does not disclose the number of police personnel assigned to work during this type of visit.
'Security costs for protection of visiting members of the Royal Family while in Canada are covered through the existing operational budget. For security reasons, we cannot provide a detailed breakdown of these costs.'

The HRH egos have landed: That’s the devastating verdict from Diana’s private secretary, who argues Harry and Meghan have let rocket-fuelled vanity triumph over duty

Daily Mail
The Sussexes’ path was particularly bumpy in 2019 as their post-wedding popularity dwindled alarmingly.
The causes were mostly self-inflicted. How else to describe the slippery handling of news around Archie’s birth; virtue-signalling about climate change while continuing to emit tons of CO2, much of it from private jets; pleading victim status while enjoying the trappings of royal privilege to the hilt; or jeopardising the national interest by announcing a major legal action against the Press during an official visit to South Africa?"

how the Queen was forced to phone Harry to ask his Xmas plans, how Palace aides pleaded with him to be patient... and the rage as royals learned the truth from TV

Daily Mail
It was early November when the call came through to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's taxpayer-funded home, Frogmore Cottage, at Windsor. On the line, unusually, was the Queen.
It is important to stress from the start of this insight into what has unfolded over the past 48 hours that the monarch doesn't just call anyone, not even her own family. They call her.
But the 93-year-old felt that she had no choice.
Since no one else could get any sense out of her brooding grandson, not even his own father, she had decided to try herself."

So much for being financially INDEPENDENT! UK taxpayers will still pay Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's '£600,000 security and £130,000 travel costs' while they will get £2.3m-a-year from Prince Charles' Duchy

Daily Mail
  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry said they are 'stepping back' from their duties
  • They also claim to be losing access to Sovereign Grant shared by the Queen
  • But if they continue royal duties their travel is covered from £83million pot
  • They also receive £2m-plus from Prince Charles, who now faces a big decision
  • Couple and their son Archie require 24/7 police bodyguards costing £600k
  • Refurbishment on Frogmore Cottage cost £2.4m - but work is still not finished

  • The couple have launched a new website, registered in March 2019 and developed secretly in Toronto, and it announced their desire to achieve 'financial independence' - but critics have branded this impossible.
  • Harry and Meghan say they will still 'proudly' carry out official overseas visits in support of the Queen, which are also covered by the Sovereign Grant. In the last financial year they claimed £130,000 for travel costs, including £80,000 alone for their trip to Australia, New Zealand and Pacific islands such as Tonga and Fiji at the end of 2018.
And they are also demanding to keep their publicly-funded private protection officers costing up to £1million-a-year and paid for by the Home Office.

The 10 critical questions left unanswered by Harry and Meghan Markle's bizarre announcement

Daily Mail
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell announcement that they are 'stepping back' as senior royals shocked the world and left the Palace 'deeply disappointed.'
The extraordinary statement, released without consulting the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William, set out their plans for the future, telling how they want to 'carve out a progressive new role within this institution.'
Royal aides said they had pressed the 'nuclear button' making their intentions known in the six paragraph declaration posted on their new sussexroyal.com website just days after returning from a six-week break in Canada with their son Archie.
Sources said they spent weeks 'secretly plotting ' their decision during their trip, in what one insider branded a 'staggering level of deceit.'

'They will be punished for this': Furious royal aides warn of backlash against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Daily Mail
The Duchess of Cambridge's 38th birthday was completely eclipsed today after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit as senior royals having defied the Queen's plea to delay announcing their 'nuclear' plans.
Courtiers have warned that 'Harry and Meghan will be punished' for ignoring crystal-clear orders from Her Majesty not to go public until the proposal was finalised by senior family members including his father.
Prince Charles and Prince William were both said to be left 'incandescent with rage' after learning about the Sussexes' announcement just 10 minutes before it was published on the couple's own Instagram page - followed by the roll-out of a slick new website secretly set up 10 months ago.
The fallout saw crisis talks held today between senior royals at Kensington Palace, where members of the family had already gathered to celebrate the Duchess of Cambridge's 38th birthday, with their decision branded a 'declaration of war' on Harry's family.

Revealed: How Prince Harry 'defied the Queen' by announcing plans for him and Meghan Markle to quit as senior royals

Evening Standard
Prince Harry defied clear instructions from the Queen not to announce that he and Meghan are to quit as “senior” royals, the Evening Standard has been told.
The Queen made it clear to her grandson that he should not proceed with any announcement this week about his future after he requested a meeting with her at Sandringham, according to senior sources.
The Duke of Sussex’s apparent refusal to comply with an explicit request from the head of the royal family will help to explain the unprecedented expressions of “hurt” and “disappointment” from the palace over last night’s statement.    .......
Another member of the royal household told the Standard: “This hasn’t been properly thought through.
"It is an incredibly self-indulgent and the way they made this announcement showed little or no respect to the Queen or the Prince of Wales who have been given a lifetime of service to the Crown. It is shocking, just shocking behaviour.”

A right royal cash in! How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle trademarked over 100 items from hoodies to socks SIX MONTHS before split with monarchy - with new empire worth up to £400m

Daily Mail

Nicole Murdoch, a trademark lawyer based in Brisbane, Australia, said the signs that the Sussexes were leaving the Royal Family were emerging last summer.
She said: 'This could be because they may lose their titles as part of leaving the Royal Family. So this is a defensive move to allow them to continue using the titles or a name that alludes to the titles.
'Their Royal Titles are gifted by the Queen – will they lose their Royal Titles when they step back from Royal duties.
'Legally there also must be an intention to use the trade mark on the goods/services of the application at the time of the application. Unless it is a defensive mark (which requires a prior registration).
'When the trademark move was publicised in December there was a lot of uncertainty over why they were doing it."

Why the Queen must FIRE Their Royal Hustlers: Deluded Meghan and Harry should be stripped of their titles

Daily Mail
I've seen some disgraceful royal antics in my time, but for pure arrogance, entitlement, greed, and wilful disrespect, nothing has ever quite matched the behaviour of the 'Duke and Duchess of Sussex.'
I put inverted commas around those titles because I sincerely hope they won't exist much longer.
These two deluded clowns announced yesterday they were quitting life as senior royals.
In a series of staggeringly pompous statements on their gleaming new Hollywood-style website, they laid down the law to the Queen and to the rest of us about exactly how things are supposedly going to work from this moment on. To summarise, they want to stop being 'senior royals' with all the tedious duty that entails.
And instead, they now want to be a 'progressive' force within 'the institution'.
In other words, they want to be super-woke celebrities (with all the outrageous 'Do as we say not as we do' hectoring hypocrisy they've already brought to that status) who get to keep all the trappings of royal life without any of the hard, boring bits and the right to cash in on their status however they choose. So, they want the glitz, the glamour, the splendour and the stupendous wealth….they just don't want to have to actually earn it.
What a pathetic joke.
It's only when you read the details of this 'independence' that you realise what it actually means is they want to live off Harry's dad's money, from Prince Charles and his Duchy of Cornwall – which he only possesses by right of being the Queen's heir. They have also informed us they intend to continue living for free, when they grace the UK with their esteemed presence, at Frogmore Cottage, their palatial home in Windsor that was gifted to them by the Queen and which has been refurbished to their specifications at a cost to the taxpayer of millions of pounds. Oh, and they expect to continue having royal protection too wherever they choose to live and travel – at further vast expense to the taxpayer.
And they'll want all the other stuff that goes with that like VIP royal travel.

How the hell has it come to this less than two years after a wedding that was greeted with global excitement and praise?
Two words: Meghan Markle.
To put it bluntly, she's an unsavoury manipulative social-climbing piece of work who has inveigled her way into Prince Harry's heart and used his blind love as a platform to now destroy everything he once held so dear."

Harry and Meghan set to make MILLIONS: Couple complain that their Royal roles mean they can't make their own money - despite being worth £34m (and they will still get a huge cash injection from Charles' estate)

Daily Mail
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last night revealed they plan to relaunch their careers – potentially earning millions of pounds a year. In an astonishing statement on their new website, they complained they had been unable to earn their own money as senior royals. They will give up their income from the Sovereign Grant – the money taxpayers give to the Queen every year – and launch themselves onto the international celebrity circuit.   .....While the statement on the couple’s website makes great play of the fact they are giving up the money from the Sovereign Grant, it does not say whether they will be making do without the cash they get from Prince Charles via his private £1.2billion Duchy of Cornwall estate – which some argue should be regarded as a public asset.    .....
Charles paid £4.9million to his sons from his duchy income last year, of which slightly less than half is believed to have gone to Harry. Yesterday the Sussexes said the money from Charles amounted to 95 per cent of their office expenditure. They added: ‘The remaining 5 per cent of funding for the Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, covering costs associated with employing members of their official office, is received through the Sovereign Grant.’   Harry’s other wealth comes from his estimated £20million inheritance from his mother Princess Diana. He also banked around £7million from his great-grandmother the Queen Mother, who paid it into a trust fund in 1994.

Whatever happened to the enchanting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle we all fell in love with?

Daily Mail
I suppose there is a kind of courage in knowing when you’ve had enough, and in that respect Harry has been clear enough. But in truth it’s not entirely obvious what has driven him to such a conclusion: was the £2.4 million taxpayer-funded refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage not lavish enough? The outpouring of affection at their multi-million-pound wedding insufficiently fawning? The Queen’s repeated invitations to stay - rebuffed more than once - not hospitable enough?
It’s almost as though nothing matters to this couple apart from their own immediate happiness and gratification, as though they are incapable of seeing beyond their own little bubble of privilege. It has often been speculated as to whether they might end up walking away from Britain. But the timing of this announcement could hardly be more insensitive, or more indicative of the how little either seems to understand the true nature of their roles as Royals."

'It's a masterclass in wanting to have your cake and eat it’:

Daily Mail
Harry and Meghan have today been blasted by aides who claim the royal family 'bent over backwards for them' since they got together in 2016 only for the rebel couple to quit anyway without consulting the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William.       .......One exasperated aide said: 'People had bent over backwards for them. They were given the wedding they wanted, the house they wanted, the office they wanted, the money they wanted, the staff they wanted, the tours they wanted and had the backing of their family. What more did they want?'
Another royal source said: 'It's deeply unfair to the Queen who doesn't deserve to be treated this way. It is a shoddy way to treat her. The family understands that they want to do something different and is perfectly willing to help them. People are just devastated.' A senior royal source said the Queen and her family were 'deeply disappointed'. Another said the royals were 'shocked, saddened and downright furious' at the couple. "

Where it all went wrong for Prince Harry and Meghan

Daily Mail
Tragically, the shared happiness was misplaced. Harry and Meghan were not just a couple who wanted to embrace both modernity and tradition; they were bent on re-writing the rule book of what being a member of the Royal Family actually means. We should perhaps have realised; after all, the manner in which the duchess's father was ruthlessly excluded from the ceremony went beyond mere discourtesy. .......Their preaching to ordinary people about how they should lead their lives — particularly about climate change — and what has come to be seen as a drip, drip, drip of complaints about how they are treated, has led to a real disconnect. Who would have thought that in recent times the mere mention of Harry and Meghan's names at Buckingham Palace would lead some of the Queen's most loyal courtiers to wrinkle their noses and pull a face."

History is repeating itself with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Daily Mail

This can only be described as an abdication. Meghan and Harry have in effect withdrawn from their royal duties and will spend a large part of their future lives in North America.
Yet there seems little doubt that their decision has shocked Buckingham Palace and the wider Royal Family as it has shocked the country. It has been suggested that Meghan and Harry made their bombshell announcement without consulting the Queen. If true, that is, in my view, an atrocious lapse of judgment. The wording from the Palace last night, that 'these are complicated issues that will take time to work through', hints that the decision to abandon their royal duties is perhaps not as final as Meghan and Harry might wish it to be."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want to STAY at Frogmore Cottage after taxpayer-funded £2.4m renovation (but could have to pay RENT) and they want to KEEP £650k-a-year security

Daily Mail

Despite stepping back as frontline royals, Harry and Meghan have decided to keep Frogmore Cottage.
The public paid £2.4million to fund a renovation of the Grade II-listed property near Windsor Castle. And the couple announced last night they wanted to keep it so they would have 'a place to call home in the United Kingdom'. The phrasing raised the prospect that their main home will come to be regarded as being elsewhere, perhaps Canada.  It was decided taxpayers would help Harry and Meghan pay for Frogmore after the newlyweds eschewed their home in the grounds of Kensington Palace, wanting a place of their own.

This was a shoddy way to treat the Queen

Daily Mail

The sixth-in-line to the throne and his wife have decided to declare unilateral independence from a thousand-year-old institution on their own terms.
Coming just a month after another second son — Prince Andrew — inflicted a very different sort of damage on the institution, it is going to require some hard talking and painful home truths.
Just as the Queen and the Prince of Wales had to join forces to deal with the crisis created by the Duke of York following his disastrous interview to Newsnight, so there will need to be a joint approach in their handling of this predicament."

'I'll just simply say I'm disappointed': Meghan's estranged father Thomas Markle reacts to bombshell revelations his daughter and Prince Harry are quitting the royal family

Daily Mail

Meghan's estranged father spoke out just hours later, telling Us Weekly: 'I'll just simply say I'm disappointed.' Markle, a 74-year-old retiring lighting director, did not elaborate on the cause of his disappointment. He has not had contact with his daughter since before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry and hasn't met his eight-month-old grandson Archie. "

Multi-millionaire couple seek "financial independence"

'So long peasants!' Social media explodes after Meghan and Harry say they are stepping down from royal roles (Daily Mail)

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex last night 'pressed the nuclear button' on their royal careers by announcing they are quitting their frontline roles.
Their dramatic decision was taken without the knowledge of the Queen, Prince Charles or Prince William, who learnt about the announcement via news channels.
The news was shared on the Sussexes' social media channels, causing a flood of reaction from Twitter and Instagram users. The couple, who plan to split their time between Britain and North America, made the bombshell announcement days after returning from a six-week break in Canada.
