UK public borrowing hits record as tax receipts slump

"Britain's budget deficit hit £19.9bn in May compared with £12.2bn in the same month in 2008, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics. Public sector net borrowing reached £30.5bn for the first two months of the financial year - more than double the level in 2008."
